In the laser printing or photocopying toner is heated to adhere perfectly to the support but this adhesion is influenced by three main components: the type of printer, toner and paper. In our laboratories, we are able to achieve a check on the adhesion of different types of toner or printers performing specific tear test.

The test is used to check the printability properties of an ink on a given substrate. Performing those prints can identify the acceptability of the printing support or the actual yield of the ink, a fundamental parameter to evaluate the real consumption of a series of inks in comparison to other.
This test is aimed at customers who want to check the consistency and quality of its supplies of ink.

In gravure printing inks dry through evaporation of the solvents or, in case of water-based inks, by absorption of water by the support. It is not easy to produce a printing ink with a thickness comparable with that of the printing machine. For this reason we make test prints – with different engraved printing cylinder for testing drying properties, colorimetric characteristics, adhesion, or to verify the properties of the support. This test is aimed at all gravure printers that do not have an internal lab tests.


FlexoTest flexo printability

The test is used to check all the components involved in the flexographic printing and the interaction between them. Thanks to this test it is possible to verify the yield and the adhesion of the inks on different types of substrate and with the use of different types of anilox addition to the possibility of testing different types of polymers. The special equipment in our laboratory allow us to have a very real simulation respect to the flexographic printing machine.

Paper normally release particles or fibers and this can dirty the printing plate slowing down the workflow.
Our test reveals the different behavior of several kind of paper during the printing process and generate a classification of them.

The Mottling effect is a printed area that is not uniform. The test identify:

In cases where the paper is printed on both sides can happen that the ink penetrates too within the same create problem as the readability of the text printed on the reverse side. The test that we carry out allows you to check in that amount of ink creates a trouble penetrating. The print through is calculated as a percentage between the degree of white, measured at distances of fixed time, and the whiteness of the original paper.

SettlingChecking the setting

The criteria of the setting is critical for optimum printability as the rate of absorption is determined by the time that the liquid components of the ink needs to penetrate into the paper. A too slow may create spots as the ink does not dry fast enough. A too rapid, on the other hand, may create a reduction of the mechanical properties of the ink film after drying. In the latter case too binder penetrates the paper leaving the pigment on the surface and, due to this, the abrasion resistance and gloss may be less.

DataBaseCreating the database for formulation software

The creation of a database for color formulation software is a task that requires attention and professional preparation that are not often found in companies that use the software and instrument to create recipe. A database created incorrectly often leads to non-optimal formulation of the results. Thanks to our laboratories we are able to produce the database for any type of ink fat, liquid, water or solvent based as well as UV. We are also able to produce prints to any type of process: typographic, offset, flexo, gravure and screen printing. The database for the inks can be created as ink print-ready or with the management of base and solvent, and then, with the inclusion of the curves of viscosity or, finally, as raw materials with the breakdown of pigments, binders and additives. Finally, on request, we can create any kind of database using the same characteristics of anilox engraving frame or the customer. Through the laboratory measurement, we are able to read and create the database for any type of instrumentation and measurement geometry, 0 / 45 and sphere, taking readings both in reflection and in transmission. This service is primarily intended for printers and ink manufacturers.

The compatibility of the inks to ISO 2846 are a necessary condition to be able to print in compliance with ISO 12647. In our laboratories we carry out tests to verify the compatibility of the series of ink to the parameters required by the rules of the 2846 series that occur aspects colorimetric and transparency of the inks. Compliance Testing to: ISO 2846-1 Sheet and web heat-set offset, ISO 2846-2 Coldseat offset, ISO 2846-3 Gravure editions, ISO 2846-5 Flexographic Printing.
